The Escape Gem, and connecting dots
CodeNice!, the little merb app unagi-san and i have embarked upon is coming along nice! But, unfortunately the state of ruby syntax highlighting libraries is pretty sad. Besides the fact that you have to get oniguruma running (again a non-trivial task), ultraviolet has some internal FAIL that you have to hack around to get working as a callable lib.

Han's Corollary: The Ruby Corollary to Godwin's...
I came up with a corollary to Godwin’s Law for the Ruby community. Anytime someone goes on a rant about Ruby and/or its community, the probability of a comparison to Zed Shaw (and/or his departure from the community) approaches 100% the longer the discussion proceeds.

A few weeks ago i went to see David Weinberger speak his alma mater the University of Toronto (video here). Weinberger is the author of Everything is Miscellaneous (EiM), and professor at the Harvard Law School’s Berkman Center For Internet and Society. angryamoeba expressed his interested in porting a lib we have built into videojuicer to do localization (or localisation as he puts it :P ) to merb. Since i talked to the merb guys last week at RubyConf2008 i dropped mattetti a line to find out what they intend for merb localization and what they’ve already done.
